What
It Was |
| A
46-acre working farm and participatory educational facility operating
in conjunction with The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals. |
| |
What
It Did |
| Encouraged
visitors to empathize with animals and to understand their needs and
behavior. |
| |
How It Worked |
| Children
and adults participated in 68 interactive activities - each showing
them the world from the perspective of an animal. "Sight Masks"
used fiber optics to simulate the optical systems of farm animals,
giving visitors the unique opportunity to see like a cow (with almost 360
degree vision), a goat (through a square pupil) or a sheep (in black
and white). A "Stride Game" conveyed a sense of the size
and movement of different animals by inviting people to match their
strides to those of a horse, chicken or goat. And the "Scent
Maze" demonstrated pigs' dependence on their sense of smell by
asking visitors to rely on their own to navigate through a maze of
scented poles. |
