How We Work With You

Shanghai Dream Cube

An experience is never fully designed until the audience completes it.

ESI Design works closely with our clients to customize a design process that achieves their goals. Through iterative stages of collaboration, we work with our clients and their stakeholders to create lasting relationships and inspiring solutions. Some key stages of our design processes include:

Establishing project goals and parameters

We work with our clients and their stakeholders to build a foundation for our collaboration through an understanding of audience behaviors and values, communication ideas, goals and outcomes, and parameters for creating our shared vision for the project.

Creating a concept

Our collaboration will evolve into a design direction that describes the thematic approach, communication strategies, content for story themes and narratives, and visual materials describing concept. These materials could include visualizations and models, activity descriptions and participant scenarios, diagrams and written narratives.

Defining content

Once a concept is defined, design teams work with clients to conduct research and develop specific content objectives.

Finalizing the design

Based on our iterative concepts and content definition, the design is developed and detailed. Specifications are often created for experience pathways, collaboration platforms, exhibit environments, participant activities, storytelling narratives, media specifications, and interactive diagrams. Drawing packages for the fabrication of physical elements and graphics, along with media specifications for audiovisual, software and systems production may also be produced.

Observing production

Once all design packages are complete, ESI collaborates with its in-house media producers, partner fabricators and other producers to plan and implement the production of a project.
