ESI Design is a proud incubator of a new collaborative project that is amplifying the work of New York City nonprofits, community groups and city agencies through the power of pro bono design.
In collaboration with a citywide team of dedicated volunteer designers and design advocates, ESI Design is helping to organize and nurture desigNYC, a new project dedicated to improving life in New York City by connecting community and civic groups that are in need of design services with professional, pro bono design resources.
desigNYC was organized from a surge of interest among designers to use their talents to benefit the public good, especially at the local level. Together, we are channeling that energy into real projects that demonstrate the power of good design. Core desigNYC offerings include helping connect organizations and designers, providing pro bono design guidelines and best practices, coordinating community-building and networking events, and advocating and promoting design collaborations.
In January 2010, desigNYC launched its first round of successful pilot projects by matching 10 organizations doing great work in the city with more than 10 talented design professionals and firms. The first 10 pilot projects leverage all types of design services (from graphic, print and interactive design to architectural, landscape and lighting design) and will benefit a range of social and environmental projects including affordable housing, sustainable development, social justice, health, environmental advocacy, green space, urban farming / local food systems, youth leadership and more.
