A campaign to ignite excitement and a call to action about the power of theatre education to transform lives.
To meet the urgent need for greater awareness of and advocacy for theatre education, the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) initiated a campaign called A Dramatic Difference, which celebrates, supports and spreads the word about theatre education and the dramatic difference it makes to students everywhere.
A Dramatic Difference aims to raise awareness by encouraging public participation in sharing personal experiences about the theatre; providing information, tools and motivation for people to become effective advocates for theatre education; and expanding EdTA’s sphere of influence and demographic reach.
ESI designed the A Dramatic Difference microsite and produced sample videos that are featured on the site. The centerpiece of the site is audience-contributed content, with a variety of challenges and/or prompts presented to incite responses.
A section called Make a Scene asks visitors to create and submit videos on how theatre education has made a difference to them, posing challenges such as, "If It Weren’t for Theatre, I..." and "Theatre Nightmare or 'You Think That’s Bad...'". The Share a Story section encourages visitors to reflect on the importance of theatre in their lives—past, present and future—via video or written testimonials, with prompts like: "What was your first memorable theatre experience?" or "How might your life have been different without theatre?"
Contributors range from high school students to theatre professionals and corporate executives. The multitude of voices, perspectives and stories help to elucidate the magic and transformative ability of the theatre and bring the mission of EdTA to life.
