A multimedia learning experience that connects children through reading, storytelling and theatre.
ImaginOn is an extraordinary children’s environment that brings together The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County and the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte under one roof. ESI was retained to develop a space that links the two institutions by creating a learning experience that sparks the inventive spirit of children and provides exciting opportunities to flex their creative muscles.
The interactive activities designed by ESI combine the missions of the library and the children’s theatre to encourage creativity and imagination. Individual and group activities enable children to transform their ideas into stories, illustrations and theatrical scenes. Children leave ImaginOn not only having completed fun, hands-on and collaborative activities, but also believing that creativity lies within each one of them.
At the hub of ImaginOn is the Story Jar, where visitors’ contributions are collected and shared. Children are encouraged to create stories and drawings at individual stations called Tale Spinners or work together at Team Machines to create a theatrical scene. Spy-noculars, mounted on the rails around the building, encourage the children to explore the spaces around them. WeeTeeVees hidden throughout the space offer children a sense of discovery.
ImaginOn is an unprecedented regional resource for families that is unlike any facility in the country, creating a synergy from educational drama experiences to the critical skills of reading and learning. Young people learn in many ways – through all five senses and “from the page to the stage” – and ImaginOn is the launching pad for remarkable journeys and endless possibilities.
