A museum experience that tells the story of sailing as a living sport, a vibrant culture and a vital part of American history.
The National Sailing Hall of Fame will be a new state-of-the-art education center on the waterfront at Annapolis, Maryland where visitors of all ages will explore the traditions, science and skills of American sailing. ESI is designing the National Sailing Hall of Fame to be an energized environment filled with stunning imagery, classic sailing artifacts, and interactive exhibits that capture sailing’s spirit and excitement.
For most visitors, a day at the National Sailing Hall of Fame will begin online at the Hall of Fame’s website. Newcomers will be introduced to the many sides of sailing. Those with modest experience will find ways to expand their sailing knowledge and hone their skills. Seasoned sailors and members of yacht clubs nationwide will use the website to interact, chronicle their sailing experiences, and share their knowledge with sailing’s next generation.
Once on-site, visitors will immerse themselves in hands-on activities dedicated to learning about the adventures of competitive sailing. Artifact displays and activity exhibits in the new facility will make use of an innovative array of storytelling tools and educational lenses – from sailing’s competitive history and depiction in art, film, literature, and popular culture, to sailing’s relationship to climate, weather, water, and our environment. Visiting groups will also have the opportunity to work together as a crew to learn sailing techniques and the art of teamwork. Finally, sailing workshops and special events will contribute to an unforgettable visitor experience where the excitement and spirit of sailing always take center stage.
