An interactive exhibit that communicates St. Paul’s remarkable history and story of hope.
This small, 238-year-old Chapel has become a symbol of solace and resiliency to millions from around the globe. The extraordinary volunteer-led ministry that emerged amidst the chaos and tragedy of 9/11 offered relief and hope to victims’ families and Ground Zero workers.
As a tribute to St. Paul’s unique role in the revitalization of lower Manhattan, ESI Design developed “Unwavering Spirit: Hope and Healing at Ground Zero.” The exhibit commemorates St. Paul’s rich history before and after September 11th, its contributions to the community and its role as an important sanctuary after 9/11. Through a collection of interactive activities and interpretive panels, the exhibit program enables visitors to learn about the Chapel’s unique history, ministry, volunteer community and artifact collection.
The Artifact Archive enables visitors to view different artifacts donated after September 11th and to hear a selection of stories about how and why they were created. The archive includes letters, banners, drawings and personal items donated by people from around the world. The Interactive Timeline enables visitors to select a year in the chapel’s history and learn about the significant events that took place in and around the Chapel. For example, the Chapel miraculously survived both the Great Fire of 1776 and the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001. The Community Messages exhibit enables visitors, who are often so moved by this visit that they want to share the experience with loved ones, to send e-cards featuring messages of peace.
