Websites that introduce children to wildlife conservation through fun and engaging activities.

ESI Design created three interactive websites for Turtle Pond Productions to engage children in activities that increase their awareness about preserving and protecting animals and their natural habitats. The websites are designed to complement books and characters created by Turtle Pond in partnership with Scholastic. Characters include the baby polar bear Knut, the hippo and tortoise Owen & Mzee, the baby mountain gorilla Miza, and a baby dolphin named Winter.

Knut - www.knut.net
Knut is a colorful educational website where children learn about Knut, the Berlin Zoo’s rescued polar bear cub, and his endangered natural habitat. Knut’s website features downloadable stickers, interactive games and information on how to protect the environment. To accommodate all visitors, closed captions are included for videos and voiceovers.

Owen & Mzee - www.owenandmzee.com
The Owen & Mzee website tells the true story of a friendship that grew between an ancient tortoise and an orphaned baby hippopotamus following the devastating events of the 2004 tsunami. The site features news updates via the caretaker’s blog, interactive games, music, stories and activities.

Miza - www.miza.com
The Miza website tells the story of a baby female mountain gorilla, Miza, who was rescued by her father, an alpha-male silverback gorilla, following the disappearance of her mother. The website features ranger field videos and blog updates, as well as interactive games and activities including the Gorilla Mountain climbing game, the Jungle Jammer visual music maker and the Singalong karaoke recorder.

Winter’s Tail - www.winterstail.com
The Winter’s Tail website is based on the amazing true story of Winter, a two-month old dolphin that lost her tail after becoming entangled in a crab trap. Winter was rescued off the coast of Cape Canaveral and brought to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, where she was treated and learned to swim again with a high-tech prosthetic in place of her natural tail. The Winter’s Tail website features news updates and live webcam feeds of Winter, as well as interactive games and activities such as the Aquatic Maze Game, the Fish Finder slideshow, the Winter video maker and the Ocean Jammer music maker.
