Unser Racing Museum

The Unser name is synonymous with racing. Four generations of the Unser family have proven themselves leaders in the field. Together, they have won racing’s pinnacle event – the Indianapolis 500 – nine times. The Unser Racing Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico tells the story of the Unser racing dynasty and offers a window into the exhilarating history of racing in America.

Rather than simply providing visitors with factual information, ESI designed the exhibit program as a “conversation with the Unsers, their colleagues and friends.” Personal anecdotes and memories about race events – told in the drivers’ own words – give an intimate, first-person account of the race experience. In a few words, the narratives capture moments of excitement, anxiety, physical discomfort, close calls and split-second decisions – and the thrill of victory.

Films, photographs, large-scale graphics and the Unsers’ personal collection of race cars, trophies and racing memorabilia help bring these stories to life. The artifacts powerfully illustrate the sport of auto racing and create a strong connection to America’s first family of racing. Spending a day at the Unser Racing Museum is like spending an intimate afternoon with the Unsers in their garage. Racing is the story of race cars, but it is also the story of remarkable people and the indefatigable human spirit that drives us to go farther, push through boundaries and do something that has never been done before.
