Giving a campus

a strong sense of place

Bold graphics and lighting design reactivate this building complex in the heart of Washington, D.C.

Bold colors and graphics announce Lafayette Centre to passersby and visitors.

Lafayette Centre is a complex of buildings in the bustling center of Washington, DC. Beacon Capital Partners wanted an approach that would differentiate Lafayette Centre from neighboring buildings and confirm its place at the top of the value-oriented market. ESI Design created crisp, bold signage and wayfinding elements for the public spaces and garage that will easily orient tenants and visitors and announce Lafayette Centre as a desirable contemporary property.

Bold colors and graphics announce Lafayette Centre to passersby and visitors, establishing a visual identity that is used throughout the site, above and below ground. The wayfinding elements direct and inform visitors at key moments from arrival to destination; on the street, within the corridors, and at each lobby entrance. Strong sculptural numbers identify each building. Square number placards designate lobby entrances and serve as wayfinding at key moments. Directories in the street level corridor and at lobby entrances provide up-to-date rosters of current tenants and direct visitors to the proper location.

The graphic and physical interventions reframe the Lafayette Centre. Differing from ESI’s other work with Beacon, which features technological installations, the lighter, more classical work is equally as effective establishing place and value.
